William “Bill” Warmke, 81, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 after a brief illness.
Bill was born July 29, 1934, in Anderson to the late Clarence & Genevieve (Freeman) Warmke, Jr. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1952. He received his B.S. & M.A. Degrees in Education from Ball State University.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Conway during the Korean War. He received the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe) & the Nat. Defense Service Medal. He served 36 years in the Naval Reserves, having retired E-7.
Bill was a 50 year member of First Baptist Church, where he was very active and served on several boards. He had worked for the Anderson Newspaper as a headline writer, then worked one year for GM before joining the U.S. Navy. He had a lengthy career with Anderson Community Schools as teacher, coach, Dean & Principal from 1960-1993. Bill taught at Highland 60-62, Central 62-72, North Side 72-76, Northside as Dean 76-78, then as Asst. Principal from 78-85, South Side as an Asst. Principal 85-86, 10th St as Principal 86-91, & College Corner as Principal 91-93. Then at St. Ambrose Elementary as a Co-Principal from 93-95.
He was very active in the community having served 16 years as a member and Past President for the Anderson City Parks & Rec Board, member of Sen. Lugar’s Merit Selection Committee for U.S. Naval Academy, and served on several committees for Drug Awareness. He was also a member of the Anderson Lion’s Club, Fellowship Lodge #681 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Cathedral, VFW #266, among many other associations.
He is survived by his sons, Victor (Beth) Warmke, of Anderson, Vincent (Brenda) Warmke of Seffner, FL, & Van (Angela) Warmke of Colliersville, TN; brother, Clarence Warmke; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Warmke; three brothers; and one sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Pastor Art Jaggard officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 Monday, with Masonic Services at 7 p.m. conducted by Fellowship Lodge #681 F. & A.M. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park with military honors by VFW Post 266.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church.
