Virginia Mae Milliner

September 15, 1934 — July 14, 2023

Virginia Mae Milliner (Stanford), 88, of Lapel, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, in the comfort of her longtime home.

She was born September 15, 1934, in Lapel, Indiana, to loving parents Shirley and Martha Kate Stanford.

She thrived in her adult years as a loving stay-at-home mom, loyal wife, and later adoring grandmother.

Ginny attended Daybreak and Lone Oak Wesleyan church with her husband Bob.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert G. Milliner; children; son Doug (Debbie) Milliner of Anderson; daughter Darla (Rick) Busby of Pendleton, granddaughter Kelsie (Andy) Barva; grandson Ryan (Lauren) Busby; grandson Wesley (Kortney) Busby; five great-grandchildren, Max, Addie, Katie, Roman, and Theodore; and brother Fred (Vicki) Stanford. Ginny was also survived by her special nurse Kate Marshall who saw to her care and comfort in her last months.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Kate Stanford; brother Bill Stanford; sister Betty Jo Smith; and beloved son Bobby Milliner.

Ginny loved camping and traveling with her husband and best friend, Bob. She was so happy to have been able to spend their winters in Arizona, sightseeing, meeting new friends, and playing Euchre in their loved motor home. She made sure to send home the biggest boxes of souvenirs, stuffed toys, trinkets, and postcards to her grandchildren throughout their travels to ensure they knew their grandparents were always thinking of them.

For many years you could find Ginny and Bob as camp hosts at their favorite campground, Shakamak State Park. Here they would fish for hours, find the best campsites for their kids and grandchildren to enjoy, get to know all of the campers, and point everyone in the right direction.

Virginia loved her family fiercely. She dedicated her life to her parents, siblings, husband, children, and grandchildren. There was never any doubt about how much she cared for each member and had the ability to make everyone in her life feel special. Every house guest would be made to feel at home, offered a drink or Hostess treat, and plenty of conversation.

It is hard, to sum up such a full life in a few short paragraphs. But Ginny lived a full life and, in the end, felt that she had done everything she ever wanted to do, loved her family completely, and was ready for her next adventure.

In her final days, she was tenderly cared for by her son Doug, daughter Darla and her sweet husband, Bob. They ensured she knew that the love she had expressed throughout her life was greatly reciprocated, and she left peacefully. She made a request to her grandson that everyone smile at the memories we had with her and rejoice that she is now pain-free with the Lord and all of the loved ones that left before her.
