Vevie Shaton Sykes

Vevie Shaton Sykes, 50, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Beaumont Rehab in Anderson.

She was born on June 8, 1975, in Peru, Indiana to Don Edward and Dorothy Jean (Jarnigan) Sykes. Vevie was proud to earn her G.E.D. at the Excel Center in Anderson. She was a certified nursing aid. She had previously worked at White Castle. In her childhood years, she attended Way of Holiness Church of God in Christ.

She was quick-witted with funny sense of humor. With her, everything was black and white and she was strong-willed. She had an amazing voice and music was her thing. She loved to be around her family.

Vevie is survived by a brother, Don Sykes; two sisters, Wanda Sykes and Lisa Sykes; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents, Richard and Alberta Wilson.

There will be no services. Cremation will take place with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru at a later date.
