Verda Mercille Leisure

Verda Mercille Leisure, 91, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023.

She was born June 1, 1931, in Anderson. Verda worked for Canteen at Delco-Remy, along with food service in the Madison County School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson and a member of the Life Club. She was a past member of the Eagles & Elks associations. Verda enjoyed playing the organ and loved dancing. She had many trophies from her years of swing dancing.

Verda is survived by her children, Rene (husband, Gary) Patton & Derrick (wife, Renee) Smith; five grandchildren, Seth (wife, Jessica) Patton, Summer Patton, Chad (wife, Sara) Smith, Ashley (husband, Keith) Johns, & Laci (husband, Andy) Phillips; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Smith, Jim McConnell, & George Leisure; daughter, Robin Elise Rodgers; mother & stepfather, Beatrice & John Gamble; father, Walter Emery Helmic; and brother, Walter Helmic, Jr.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Memorial Contributions may be made in Verda’s name to the First Baptist Church of Anderson.
