Thomas “Tom” David Reichl

Thomas David Reichl, 79, of Lapel, passed away on September 3, 2026 at his home. Tom was born on May 26, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Matthew Joseph and Ruth Elizabeth (Carson) Reichl. Tom married the love of his life, Harriett "Louise" (Spiess) Reichl, and the two were married for 49 years at the time of his passing.

Tom achieved a bachelor's degree in business management at St. Norbert’s College while playing football and went on to briefly play for the Dallas Cowboys. A career ending injury led Tom to begin a 38 year tenure with JCPenney.

Tom was an avid fisherman throughout his life and enjoyed trips to Canada for many years. Additionally, he was an accomplished sailor, enjoyed coaching and volunteering. Among the many recipients of Tom and Louise’s philanthropy were Guide Dogs of America; Children’s Mercy Research Institute in Kansas City, Missouri; the Rose Brooks Center in Kansas City, Missouri; and Southmountain Children and Family Services in Nebo, North Carolina.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Louise; his daughter, Sarah Reichl; grandchildren, Marie and Matthew Hoane; his siblings, Karen (Tom) Van Etten, Douglas Reichl, Mary (Kent) Schneck, and Catherine (Randall) Fragosso; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew John, and his parents.
