Sylvia D. Johnson

Sylvia D. Johnson, 65, Lapel, passed away Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville following a brief illness. She was born on January 15, 1947, in Brewton, Alabama to Willie and Glennie (Vickers) Baker. Sylvia loved the out of doors and she enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, and gardening. She is survived by two sons, James O. (wife, Kim) Nixon of Noblesville, and Richard D. Chance, Jr. of Lapel; three grandchildren, Zach and Haley Nixon, and Annalicia Morelock; one brother, James (wife,Kathy) Baker of Alabama; and one sister, Kathy Carpenter of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James R. "Jake" Johnson; a sister, Willie Jean Robinson; and a brother, Tommy Waltrop. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Scott E. Hersberger Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
