Sybil Faye Reeves

May 15, 1949 — July 7, 2026

Pendleton, Indiana

Sybil Faye Reeves (née Hodges), 77, of Pendleton, IN, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Sybil was born on May 15, 1949, in Decatur, AL, to the late Luther Hodges and Mary "Edna" Hodges (née Warren). Sybil was a 1967 graduate of Anderson High School. After high school, she married James (Jim) K. Reeves in 1968. Sybil and Jim enjoyed living at the family farm and raised their son, James (Jimmy) L. Reeves, in a home that welcomed loved ones spanning multiple generations, watching over and loving family and friends whom they treated like family. They especially loved when their loved ones married and had babies who were also welcomed into the family network, with Sybil remembering every birthday, graduation, and special occasion, which she often marked with the absolutely perfect gift for each individual.

Sybil had a talent for remembering the particular likes and interests of everyone she loved, keeping a mental chronicle of what made each person unique. She never saw a knick-knack, collectible, arts, or craft that she didn't like or know immediately who to gift it to, and thus, Sybil warmed the hearts and homes of loved ones with things like a lighthouse painting for her son, who found special meaning in them, or a stained glass night light of a cat hanging on a fish bowl because she knew her daughter-in-law loved cats. Everyone who knew Sybil can think of at least one perfect present that she had found and gifted to them because it made her think of them specifically when she saw it.

These characteristics of Sybil were rooted in her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and generosity, all of which extended to more than just people. Sybil always had a dog in her home and cats on the farm, and on more than one occasion, when she found kittens that had been abandoned, Sybil took the cats into her home and fed them using an eyedropper until they were strong and healthy.

Sybil loved gardening and flowers, filling her porch and yard with potted plants and perennials. In the last few years, she enjoyed sitting in her gazebo with Tippy (the last of her beloved dogs) watching her son tend a vegetable garden. In the last year and a half of her life, Sybil and Tippy moved in with Jimmy and his wife where Sybil enjoyed daily breakfast with Jimmy and meeting a beloved caretaker, Ashley, who took Sybil on adventures to the zoo and the Festival of Christmas Trees and weekly outings to restaurants.

Sybil led a rich life because of the people she loved and was loved by.

Sybil is survived and remembered fondly by her son, James (Nicole) Reeves; siblings Glenn (Cheryl) Hodges, Jimmy Hodges, and Gayron (Sandra) Hodges; sister-in-law Carol Hodges; and more cherished extended family members than we can list here, although each knows that Sybil would delete every word above in exchange for naming each of you here.

Sybil was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Reeves; her parents, Luther and Mary "Edna" Hodges; her sister Louwilla Richardson (née Hodges); her brother-in-law, Robert Richardson; her brother, Luther Hodges, Jr.; and her sisters-in-law, Sue Hodges and Edie Hodges.
