Susan Marie (Sue) Patton, 66, of Pendleton, passed peacefully on August 10th following a brief illness. Sue was born December 16th, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana to Blair and Phyllis (Redick) Finkenbinder who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved infant daughter, Megan Suzanne.
Sue was a 1978 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, a 1982 graduate of Indiana University Bloomington with a BS in computer science and continued her studies at the University of Louisville earning her MBA.
Sue is survived by her beloved sons Blair Patton and Joey Patton both of Pendleton, sister Amy (Barry) Wilson of Richardson, Texas, nephew and niece Ryan Wilson and Kaitlyn Wilson of Texas, cousins Debbie Jackson, David Goff and Charles Goff and many extended family of Pendleton, Indiana. Additional families also include the Finkenbinder Family of Kansas.
After a long career with First Data, Sue found her passion in the nonprofit world at the South Madison Community Foundation, leading the tornado recovery efforts. Then in 2024, she found her dream job at Madison County Community Foundation where she served as their director of finance. Serving the people of Madison County through the gifts of the foundation was a source of great joy.
Outside of work, Sue was known for her kindness and compassion. Sue was passionate about many causes including Best Buddies, with whom she served in various volunteer leadership roles and founded the Pendleton Best Buddies Citizen’s chapter, Tri Kappa especially her work at the state level, Madison County SURE, Pendleton Pride, and many other organizations that supported human rights and inclusion for all. Sue also had a profound love for animals, including her beloved cat Peyton. Her final act of kindness was her decision to donate her eye tissue to Indiana Donor Network.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 22nd at Pendleton First United Methodist Church, 225 W State St. Pendleton, Indiana. Visitation will be from 12pm to 2pm with a service to follow.
