Sharon "Sherry" Lee Ballinger

Sharon "Sherry" Lee Ballinger, 81, of Anderson, passed away on August 30, 2026 surrounded by her family. Sherry was born on August 26, 1945 in Anderson to the late, Gerald P. and Dorothy (Paynter) Shine.

Sherry was a 1963 graduate from Madison Heights High School and then went on to attend William Woods University for her bachelors degree and Ball State University for her masters degree in education. She married the love of her life, Kenneth Ballinger, and the two were married for 49 years before his passing in 2017.

Sherry was a dedicated teacher for many years. Teaching not only at Anderson Community Schools Corporation but also at St. Mary's Catholic School before her retirement. She found her spiritual home at Trinity Episcopal Church and was a dedicated member for many years.

Sherry was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Anderson Country Club and Edgewood Country Club. She also dedicated her time to the Madison County Historical Society where she was the head of genealogy and the Madison County Cemetery Commission.

Sherry loved being an Anderson High School Band parent. She also enjoyed her high school classes monthly luncheons, which she helped plan. Sherry loved gardening, playing golf, and traveling. Most importantly, she loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memories is her son, Phil H. (wife, Aimee) Ballinger; her grandchildren, Andrew, Harrison, and Gerald "Jerry" Ballinger; and her brother, Jerry P. (wife, Penny) Shine.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; and her daughter, Andrea Ballinger.

A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1030 Hst Brown-Delaware St, Anderson, IN 46016. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM at the church. She will be laid to rest in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Rev. Kathryn L. Thomas will be officiating.
