Roy Leon Hall, 87, of Hillsboro, IN, formally of Anderson, passed away July 7, 2015, at IU Arnett Hospital of Lafayette after a brief illness.
He was born September 17, 1927 in Danville, IL, the son of the late Logan and Anna Hall. Roy served in the US Navy from 1944 – 1948. At the time he was known as a “Frogman”, now known as the Navy SEALs. During his time in the Navy, he also played in the Drum & Bugle Corp and was a welterweight fighter. Roy served on the USS Portsmouth as well as the USS Wilkes-Barre.
Roy was the welterweight Champion Golden Gloves of Anderson and Crawfordsville. He was also a member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, where he fished the circuit for about 3 years. He also raced Sprints and Midgets Race Cars in the 1950’s. He worked as a millwright at Delco Remy for 31 years.
He is survived by his two children; son, Kim L. (Tina) Hall of Quitman, Miss.; daughter, Kelly Sue (fianc�, Ron) Christian of Hillsboro; granddaughters, Kristin (Ben) Napier of Fairmount and Jessica Christian of Hillsboro; grandson, Justin (Maggie) Christian of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; granddaughter, Mary Hall of Anderson; eight great-grandchildren, Kara Leighann, Caleb James, Lillian Grace, Hannah Isabella, Abigail Sophia, Quentin Orion, Gavin Cash and River Leon; and his first great-great-granddaughter expected in August; nephews, Clayton Morgan and Mark (Pam) Morgan; nieces Maureen (Tom) Conner, Diane Rickleff and Carol Mitchell.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Hall.
Services will be Noon, Saturday, at the Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with Rev. John Hackney officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 266. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
