Nicara Lee Newsom

October 14, 1985 — April 11, 2026

Anderson, Indiana

Nicara Lee Newsom was born October 14, 1985, in Los Angeles, California. She died April 11, 2026. She sealed her commitment to Christ in baptism June 13, 2007.

Nicara attended Pendleton Heights High School. She worked as a caregiver and rehab assistant while in high school and later while at Ivy Tech. At Ivy Tech she was preparing for a health care vocation. Nicara was married to Stephawn Newsom while in high school. They were parents of Skylur, now 20, Cailen, 16 and Gavin (12-13-03 – 12-13-03). She came to live with her grandparents, Stanley and Dovella Boyd, in December 2011. Nicara’s mother, Catherine Rameriz, moved in with us in 2021 to help with her care and assumed guardianship in 2025. Her aunt, Jennifer Boyd, took a leave from her nursing program to care for her during her months in care facilities while Nicara’s medical condition was fragile. After coming home, Nicara required around-the-clock care, and the family was assisted by dedicated caregivers. Ellena Surface, and others, supported her care from 2012 until retiring due to illness in 2024. Mary Coffman, Teresa Quesenberry, Joyce Flowers and a few others compassionately cared for her more recently. The Lord Jesus supplied just the right people!

Nicara had a sense of humor and found enjoyment in interacting with family, church friends, and neighbors. She enjoyed attending church services and was loved by those who knew her. She was unable to eat by mouth for the last 16 months which compromised her quality of life. While she worked hard to exercise regularly and stayed engaged in activities she could do within her limitations, her desire was to “go home”. The Lord Jesus granted this desire when He called her peacefully to Himself!

Aside from her mother, Nicara leaves two brothers, Kasian (wife Alexandra) and Joseph Granville. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Stephanie Barbee. A memorial service for Nicara is planned for April 26, 2026 from 2 to 5pm with a short devotional and open mic at 4pm. This will be held at Humble Life Farms, 1695 N. 400 E., Anderson, IN 46012.

Nicara's care entrusted to Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton, Indiana.
