Nellie Lou Benedict, 88, of Sawyer, Kansas, passed away December 5, 2022, at Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, Kansas after an extended illness.
She was born on June 3, 1934, in Pendleton, Indiana to Bernice and Ruth (Stoner) Long.
Nellie married Willis Price Benedict on August 17, 1952. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2010.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of Old German Baptist Brethren Church in Sawyer, Kansas.
Nellie is survived by two sons, Gary Benedict of Modesto, California and Sheldon (Kathy) Benedict ofAnderson; two daughters, Rebecca (Tim) Allgood of Modesto, California and Elaine (Quentin) Hirt of Sawyer, Kansas; a brother, John (Betty) Long of Pendleton; three sisters, Evelyn Hollinger of Lapel, Martha (Richard) Hess of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and Ruth Emma (Roger) Benedict of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and infant daughter; her parents; two brothers, Robert Long and Wilmer Long; and four sisters, Mildred Oyler, Margaret Boyd, Nancy Bowser, Mary Cook.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Old German Baptist Brethren Meeting House, 600 West 400 South, Lapel, Indiana 46051. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pendleton.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Hersberger-Bozell Funeral Home, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Association or Interim Hospice, c/o Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Road, Pratt, Kansas 67124.
