Michael "Mike" R. Morgan

It is with much sadness that we share the passing of Michael “Mike” R. Morgan. Mike was born in Miami Beach, FL to Wilford R. and Ethel Marie (Horton) Morgan on February 18, 1951. He died August 31, 2025, after suffering several years from end stage kidney failure. He died in comfort and peace.

Mike graduated in 1969 from Madison Heights High School. He furthered his education from Indiana State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in education in 1973. He went on to obtain his master’s degree from Ball State University. He taught in the Anderson Community School System, where he also coached grade school basketball and high school boys and girls track and cross country.

It was at Indiana State University that Mike met Paula Claxton. They married in 1972, and they just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Born to this union were two sons, Jarek and Zachary. Jarek is married to Kristen Whitesel and they have three children, Maxwell, Evelyn, and Samuel. Zachary passed away in 2017.

Besides Paula and Jarek and his family, Mike is survived by his cousins, Cynthia (Tim) Lanane, Janice (David) Lipartito, and Jack Reid Dawson. He is also survived by Paula’s brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

Mike loved the Dodgers, his cabin at Patoka Lake, and drinking beer on the cabin porch with his cabin family. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren and all of their activities.

Mike was son, husband, dad, cousin, friend, teacher, coach and most of all, he was grandpa.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Bozell Funeral Homes-Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson 46013. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mike’s name may be gifted to the Anderson Christian Center.
