Melanie Cheryl Lewis

Melanie Cheryl Lewis, 71, of Lapel, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born on July 18, 1954, in Anderson, Indiana to Holt and Rosemary (Quick) Littrell. She was a proud graduate of Highland High School. 

She spent many years caring for children in local daycares. She loved kids and enjoyed working in the Lapel schools and local day cares. Her family often joked about her raising half of the kids in Madison County.

Melanie was a faithful member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in Anderson and enjoyed working in the church's clothing give-away. She was a dedicated Christian and loved the Lord and her family very much. 

She was always found with a Pepsi in her hand. She loved her Cubs and was an avid fan. She loved Rascal Flatts and had seen them in concert 21 times.

Melanie is survived by her husband of 50 years, Daniel Ray Lewis; one son, Bryan Lewis; one daughter, Casey (wife, Courtney) Lewis; two grandchildren, Gibson Lewis and SaBella Lewis; two bonus children, Chaston Watkins and Erica Watkins Scanlan; and her best friend, Diana Pigg.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Randall Holt Litrell. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Jim Harrison officiating. A private burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel. 

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus Avenue Church of Christ, 4620 Columbus Avenue, Anderson, Indiana 46013.
