Maureen Ellen Russell was born on July 20, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, to Earl E. and Lucille (Boudreau) Russell. Surviving is her daughter Paula Craig (Carey) of Pendleton, Indiana; her grandchildren Jackson David Adams, Eleanor Cate, and Parker Stephen McIntyre-Craig; and her niece and companion, Caroline Hunt.
Maureen was a product of Flint catholic schools and a 1974 graduate of Powers Catholic High School. She attended Mott Community College, where she majored in criminal science. A graduate of the Flint Police Academy, Maureen served the residents of Flint in several capacities as a police officer. She retired in 1998.
In 1992, Maureen married Jeffrey Schlott, also a retired Flint police officer. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2022. Jeff and Maureen maintained a vacation home in Rodgers City, Michigan, where they spent many happy moments with family and friends. Together, they traveled throughout the United States and Europe.
Maureen loved beauty, which manifested in her deep enjoyment and collection of art and beautiful things, as well as attending various local cultural events. She enjoyed visiting and supporting the Flint Institute of Arts and Newfields (Indianapolis Museum of Art). Maureen was an avid reader. She was known among family and friends as a host extraordinaire and entertaining loved ones at numerous epic parties. She was an extraordinary and generous gift-giver. Maureen was fond of laughing and joking with her sisters and friends. Her daughter and grandchildren constantly requested her famous chocolate cake.
Maureen enjoyed supporting her grandchildren’s academic, extra-curricular, and sporting events. Additionally, she attended the activities of her grand nieces, Mara and Megan Smith, and those of her great nephews Henry, Luca, and Nico Stacer.
Maureen’s surviving siblings include Denise (Thomas) Bretzke, Kevin (Christine) Russell, Gayle (Dennis) Renwick, Paula Shaw, Diane (Stan) Smith, Kerry (Patricia) Russell, Donna Russell, Kent (Linda) Russell, Mariann (Nate) Russell, and Kurt Russell. She delighted in her many nieces and nephews and their children. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Jim Greenlee. Maureen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and beloved sister, Christy.
Maureen also leaves behind numerous close, cherished friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 East Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Service time is 2.00 PM (Eastern). Friends may pay their respects to the family beginning at Noon until the time of service. Burial will take place at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint.
The family requests no flowers. Family and friends may donate in Maureen’s honor to the Flint Institute of Arts or Katie Porter for U.S. Senate
