Mary Katherine (Giannini) Smith

Mary Katherine Giannini Smith, 97, of Anderson passed away on December 17, 2022. Mary K. was born on June 3, 1925 in Follansbee, W.Va. to the late Gabriel Giannini and Anna Dalesio. She graduated from Follansbee High School. After graduating from high school she married her loving husband Glenn F. Smith. Mary K. was a homemaker and raised three daughters, Christine, Janis and Mary Ellen. Mary K. loved to cook and entertain. She loved making homemade pasta and made hundreds of dozens of cookies every year for Christmas. She catered a wedding and her best friend in high school became a bank president and she asked Mary K to cater their monthly bank meetings. She later became General Manager of a Ramada Inn in the northern Kentucky area where she raised her daughters. She and Glenn moved to Arizona when he retired in 1983.She was an avid golfer both in Kentucky and Arizona. Mary K. shot a hole-in-one in 1986 in Arizona. She played well into her 80″s. She was an avid reader and probably read 5-6 books a week up until her death. She also loved to play cards and had a monthly poker group that met at her home. She also loved going to Sunset Beach, N.C. with both family and her girlfriends from high school. Every year for over 50 years. She also loved going to casinos in Arizona, Nevada and Anderson. Mary K. loved to travel. On numerous occasions she treated her daughters to trips to wonderful places like Europe and the Caribbean.

Mary K will be dearly missed by her daughters, Christine Smith of Anderson, Janis (Dave) Morgan of Texas, and Mary Ellen(Mike)Farmer of Anderson; grandchildren Sarah(Donnie)Akin of Anderson, Lauren Shaffer of Colorado, Timothy Garcia of Texas; great-grandson Devin Blackshear of Anderson; and her sister-in-law Virginia Lauck of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Glenn.
