Madonna Harriet McMahan, 93, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in Camas, Washington. Born on May 14, 1922 in Lafayette, Indiana to Wilbur E. and Edith Marie (Beamer) Knowles. She was a former resident of Anderson.
Madonna graduated from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana in 1940 and began working at First Merchant’s Bank. She married her high school sweetheart John W. McMahan on February 27, 1942 and were married for almost 45 years. After their marriage she stayed at home and raised her three children in Lafayette, Kokomo, Richmond, and Anderson, Indiana. Later she went to work for Citizen’s Bank in Anderson, Indiana before retiring in 1987. Madonna was a member of the Rebekah’s Lodge and she enjoyed knitting, watching sports, crossword puzzles, and playing games with her family. For the last nine years, Madonna lived in Washougal, WA, with her daughter and was an active member of Washougal United Methodist Church, and especially in the quilting group.
Madonna is survived by her children Carol (McMahan) Fleming; Michael Allen McMahan, and Richard Earl (Karla) McMahan; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John McMahan and her sisters Betty Dick and Babette Wellington.
There will be a celebration of Madonna’s life at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 20, at Anderson Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 P.M. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.
