Leo Stephen Baker, 89, of Elwood, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at Elwood Health and Living in Elwood following an extended illness. Leo was born on November 27, 1934, in Garfield, New Jersey to the late Leo A. and Anna (Kacsanik) Baker.
Leo served his country in the United States Navy and then married the love of his life, Anna (Papineau) Baker on June 23, 1956 and whom preceded him in death. He raised his family in Charlestown, New Hampshire where he owned and operated Baker Sewing Wheel. He also operated the same company in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Leo later moved to join his son in Elwood, Indiana. Leo was self-employed even when moving to Elwood. He later married Barbara J. (Helton) Baker in 1987, whom later passed in July of 2010. Leo was a member of the Elwood VFW and the Elwood American Legion.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elwood.
Leo is survived by two sons, Lance (wife, Norma) Baker and Leo (wife, Thelma) Baker; two grandchildren, Douglas L. Baker and Robert J. Baker; a great-grandchild, Otto Baker; and a niece, Gail Fletcher.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years whom he married on June 23, 1956, Anna (Papineau) Baker; second wife of 24 years whom he married on December 13, 1987, Barbara (Helton) Baker; his parents; two sisters, Josephine Baker and Anita Baker Mault; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Baker.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024, Bozell Funeral Home, Lapel Chapel, 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
A Catholic funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Goth officiating. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elwood.
