With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Joel Ruiz-Mejia, just 25 years young, who left us on August 2, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson Hospital. Born on September 18, 1999, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Joel was a vibrant spirit who brought joy and warmth to everyone around him. Joel graduated from Anderson High School and built a life in Anderson, working as an electrician at Koorsen. He was not just a dedicated professional but also a beloved member of the Anderson Hispanic Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where his kindness and faith shone brightly. A true music lover, Joel's passion for singing was infectious, and his smile could light up any room. He was a social butterfly, always surrounded by friends and family, and his infectious laughter will be sorely missed. Joel cherished his family above all else, pouring his heart into his role as a wonderful step-dad. He had a love for life, a love for travel, and an insatiable curiosity that led him on many adventures.
He is survived by his Mother, Sonia Mejia-Perdomo; Four siblings, Gerard Ruiz, Bethania Ruiz, David Ruiz, and Japhet Ruiz; Step-son, Noah Esquivel; Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joel is preceded in death by his father, Vinicio Ruiz.
Visitation for family and friends will take place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at Bozell Funeral Homes, Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E. 53rd Street, Anderson, Indiana 46013. A funeral service will follow visitation starting at 6:00pm with Pastor Ricardo Scarfullery officiating.
A graveside service will conclude services on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at 10:30am at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, 6805 Dr. M.L.K. Jr. Blvd. Anderson, Indiana 46013.

Con profundo pesar en nuestros corazones, anunciamos el inesperado fallecimiento de Joel Ruiz-Mejía, con tan solo 25 años de edad, quien partió de este mundo el 2 de agosto de 2025 en el Hospital Ascension St. Vincent Anderson. Nacido el 18 de septiembre de 1999 en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, Joel fue un espíritu vibrante que llenaba de alegría y calidez a todos los que lo rodeaban.
Joel se graduó de Anderson High School y construyó su vida en Anderson, trabajando como electricista en Koorsen. No solo fue un profesional comprometido, sino también un miembro muy querido de la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día Hispana de Anderson, donde su amabilidad y su fe brillaban intensamente.
Apasionado por la música, su amor por el canto era contagioso y su sonrisa iluminaba cualquier lugar. Era una persona sumamente sociable, siempre rodeado de amigos y seres queridos, y su risa contagiosa será profundamente extrañada. Joel amaba a su familia por encima de todo y se entregó de corazón a su papel como un maravilloso padrastro. Tenía un amor inmenso por la vida, por viajar y una curiosidad insaciable que lo llevó a vivir muchas aventuras.
Le sobreviven su madre, Sonia Mejía-Perdomo; sus hermanos: Gerard Ruiz, Bethania Ruiz, David Ruiz y Japhet Ruiz; su hijastro, Noah Esquivel; así como varias tías, tíos, sobrinas, sobrinos y primos.
Joel fue precedido en la muerte por su padre, Vinicio Ruiz.
El velorio para familiares y amigos se llevará a cabo el miércoles 6 de agosto de 2025, de 4:30 p.m. a 6:00 p.m. en Bozell Funeral Homes, Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E. 53rd Street, Anderson, Indiana 46013. Un servicio fúnebre dará inicio a las 6:00 p.m., oficiado por el Pastor Ricardo Scarfullery.
