James Brothers, a beloved lover, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on August 3, 2026. He was born on November 30, 1956, in Muncie, Indiana to the late Orion & Sarah (Huffman) Brothers.
Jim was a true original with a knack for telling dad jokes and a competitive spirit that shone through in everything he did-whether it was his love for playing cards or his skills on the shuffleboard. He will be remembered fondly for his dedicated efforts to assemble kids' toys each Christmas and his special bond with Ghosty, his cat, who shares, "I miss you, Dad."
Jim is survived by his loving companion, Loretta Brown; and his devoted children: Cory Brown (Angie) and Heather Johnson (Ben). He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Peggy Brothers; and his cherished grandchildren, Jada Johnson, DJ Brown, Monte Brown, and Radley Seal, and several great grandchildren. He was a fun and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews, including Bruce Brothers (Lisa), Tonya Brothers-Bridge (David), and great nieces and nephews Amanda Willis (Keith), Luke, Noah, and Sophia Willis, as well as Matthew Brothers.
Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Dean Brothers, and his parents.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate Jim's life at a public viewing on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel. A funeral service will follow the viewing at 1:00 PM with Keith Willis officiating.
We hope you can join us to honor Jim and share some laughs, stories, and memories that truly captured his spirit.
