Jerry Wayne Galliher, 80, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on December 9, 1942, in Shelbyville, Indiana to Frank and Viola (Ennis) Galliher, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Dick Haines and sister, Beverly Ann Johnson.
He lived in Lapel, Indiana. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army in 1964 where he served in Vietnam as a sniper and was discharged in 1968.
He had worked for Beavers Material in Noblesville and Builder's Concrete in Fishers. After retiring in 2003, he and his wife moved to Lakeland, Florida.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved sports. He was a pet lover and loved his dogs dearly.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan Jane (McNutt) Galliher; his daughter, Shelley Hogan; two grandsons, Blake Hogan (Kaitlyn Dickey) and Brody Hogan (Haley); a great-granddaughter, Freyja; a sister-in-law, Gloria Haines; three nephews, Kurt, Kent and Rick; and a niece, Cindy.
Cremation took place in Lakeland, Florida and was handled by Gentry Morrison Funeral Home, Serenity Gardens.
A graveside committal of ashes will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Brookside Cemetery, 2900 Brookside Drive, Lapel, Indiana 46051 with Pastor Jill Moffitt officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army and the Lapel American Legion Post #212.
Local arrangements are being taken care of by Herbserger-Bozell Funeral Home.
