ANDERSON- James “Jim” McCleary, 81, of Anderson, passed away August 7, 2014 at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Jim was born, February 6, 1933 in Van Wert County, Ohio, the son of the late Frank and Agnes (Smith) McCleary and was an Anderson resident since 1963.
Jim worked in the railroad industry for and retired in 1995 after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and a US Navy veteran of the Korean War. Jim enjoyed playing golf, racket ball, fishing and traveling. He was a hard worker who provided for his family, was always willing to help others and enjoyed family activities.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bernadette McCleary; children, Denise McCleary Fort of Indianapolis, Patrick McCleary of Anderson, Mark (Sandra Mazzocchi) McCleary, of Noblesville, and Andrew (Lee Ann) McCleary of Anderson; grandchildren, Brigitte McCleary, Ryan McCleary, Whitney Rowan, Michael McCleary, Matthew McCleary, Andrea McCleary, and Jason McCleary; great grandchildren, Anthony McCleary, Sophia McCleary, Ella and Gwendolyn McCleary; and a brother, John McCleary of Oklahoma.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m., Monday at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church with Monsignor Sell officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory with a scripture and prayer service at 2 p.m.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
