Imogene Risk Manning

January 8, 1928 — August 8, 2023

On Tuesday, August 8, Mrs. Imogene Risk Manning, 95, left her home on West 53rd Street to take up permanent residence on the streets of gold in Heaven with loved ones who have gone before—and more importantly—to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A native of Ninevah Township, Jean graduated from Ninevah High School in 1946, where she was a class officer and cheerleader.   While working at Camp Atterbury, Jean met J. Ray Manning whom she married on December 21, 1947.  Upon moving to Anderson in 1950, Imogene began her employment at Delco-Remy on assembly productions and continued there until she retired in 1993, after 43 years of service.

Mr. and Mrs. Manning owned and operated J-R Auction Gallery, formerly Roosevelt Elementary School, where she was cashier at every Saturday night auction while Ray auctioneered.

A faithful member of the Grace Baptist Church on Hartman Road since 1969, Jean served at various times throughout the years, as a part-time Sunday School teacher, assistant clerk, and nursery worker.

At home, Jean loved cutting her grass and was often seen on her DIXON lawn mower “getting the job done!”  As an avid quilt-maker, Jean could be seen ripping out and repairing any seam that did not meet her near perfectionistic standard.

Mrs. Manning is preceded in death by:  her husband of 54 years, Ray; parents, Jason and Edna Belle (Cotton) Risk; sister, Mary Jane Collins; brothers, Dwight, Dale, and Junior Risk; granddaughter, Jennifer Forsythe; son-in-law, Douglas Miller Forsythe; and great-granddaughter, Charlotte Martin.

She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Debbie Forsythe of Xenia, Ohio; son, Duane Manning of Graham, North Carolina; granddaughter, Jessica (Forsythe) Martin, her husband, Derrick, and their three children Clara, Ella, and Spencer; numerous extended family members; and special nieces Tammy Sue and Shena Collins of Shelbyville.

Visitation for Jean will be held at the Brown, Butz, Diedring Funeral Home on Monday, August 14, from 6:00-8:00 pm with the funeral service being held at the funeral home Tuesday, August 15, at 1:00 pm.  Interment will be at the Anderson Memorial Park following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Mrs. Manning’s honor to the Indiana Christian Academy or Grace Baptist Church—both located at 52 West Hartman Road in Anderson.
