Ida Margaret “Maggie” Stephenson

February 8, 1933 — July 1, 2022

Ida Margaret “Maggie” Stephenson died peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 89. Maggie was the beloved wife of the late R.N. “Steve” Stephenson and long- time owner of Red Bud Estates in Anderson, Indiana.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses;

Doug Stephenson (Jennifer Earl), Phil Stephenson (Donna), Susann Nienhaus (Tom), Mike Stephenson (Wendy);  18 grandchildren, Candace Sanders, Aaron Stephenson (Katie), Jason Stephenson (Kelly), Jodi Brown (Christopher), Jennifer Garrett (Nicholas), Kenda Pohl (Adam), Ashley Toon (James), Katie Musgrave (Jeremy), Kyler Stephenson (Judy), Phebe Drake; 20 great grandchildren; Madison Hatter, Bryce Sanders, Keegan, Ryleigh, Kinsley Stephenson, Taylor Martin, Alexandra, Zachary Stephenson, Parker, Raegan, Beckham Brown, Jackson, Jillian Garrett, Ryker, Gage, Nixon Pohl, Wiley, Witt Toon, Caspian, Mira Musgrave.

She is predeceased by her husband Steve, grandson Gregory Allen Stephenson and great granddaughter Mercedes Sanders.

Born in Lewis County, MO, to the late J.B. and Zelma Ashmead. Maggie loved her family more than anything else. She created her legacy not only through the years as owner and operator of Redbud Estates and Camelot Communities in Anderson.  To share family memories, she compiled a cookbook of favorite recipes including her famous pink polka dot soup, cream peas and potatoes and cottage BBQ chicken.

Maggie and Steve traveled the world together playing golf and making friends everywhere. They especially enjoyed the golf and people at Augusta, GA, St. Andrews, Scotland and their winter home in Sarasota, FL. Maggie truly lived by her favorite saying “there are no strangers, only friends we haven’t met.”

Professionally, Maggie was a 20-year Indiana Manufactured Housing Association Board Member and president. She served two terms on the RV/MH Heritage Foundation Board of Directors and was elected to the Mobile Home Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN.  She served on the board of the Anderson Area Children’s Choir.

Services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013 with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.  Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
