Gary L. McDonald, 85, of Anderson passed away on October 9, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on March 27, 1941 in Anderson to the late Loren and Maxine (Jones) McDonald. He graduated from Anderson High School, class of '59 and then went on to graduate from Purdue University with his bachelors degree. He worked as a case manager for the Department of Developmental Disability and retired in 2002 after many years of a fulfilling career. Gary married the love of his life, Karen (Stirlen) McDonald, and the two were married for 63 years.
Gary was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved to cheer on Purdue, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Cubs. Gary enjoyed the stock market and watching the rise and fall of it. Most importantly, Gary loved his family and spending time with them.
Left to cherish his memories is his wife, Karen; his children, Debbie (John) Somerville of Anderson and Laura (Ric) Vega of Whitestown; his four grandchildren, Emily Somerville, Holly Somerville, Anthony Vega, and Grace Vega; his two great-grandchildren, Camden and Maverick; his sister, Marcia (Phil) Estep; two nieces and nephews; and special cousin, John McDonald and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson, Ricky Vega.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." -2 Timothy 4: 7-8
A gathering of friends and family will take place on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Canada officiating. He will be entombed at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral. Memorial contribution's in Gary's name may be gifted to the charity of your choice.
