Franklin "Del" Delano Sanders, 89, of Anderson passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026. Del was born on October 14, 1936 in Willow Grove, Tennessee to the late Leon and Gladys (Grider) Sanders, Sr.
Del was a proud graduate of Anderson High School, where he left a lasting legacy as a basketball and track star. He made history as the first person in Madison County to score over 1,000 points in basketball! Del's professional journey began at Delco-Remy, where he worked diligently in the maintenance department for 33 ½ years.
For many years, Del was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church, where he cherished the connections he made, not only teaching Sunday School, but also driving the Church School Bus. He married the love of his life, Judith "Judy" (Jones) Sanders, and together they celebrated 63 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2020. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and unwavering support.
Del's family was his pride and joy. He adored his children and grandchildren, and he was a frequent attendee at their sporting events, cheering them on with enthusiasm and encouragement.
Left to cherish his memories are his children, Brian (Marie) Sanders, Lora Perry, and Brent (Dawn) Sanders; grandchildren, Brandon (Brittianie) Sanders, Lindsey Perry, Brett (Stephanie) Sanders, and Michael (Carrie Bennett) Perry; and great-grandchildren, Breanna (Tyler) Beemer, Kierston (Jordan) Delphia, Isabella Perry, Violet Sanders, Brighton Sanders, Breannan Sanders, Nora Sanders, Braylon Sanders, Harrison Sanders, and Quinnlyn Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; sisters, Joyce Fischvoght and Michele "Dianne" Parson; and brothers, Leon Sanders, Jr. and Neville Sanders.
A graveside ceremony for Del will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Maplewood Cemetery, 200 College Dr, Anderson, IN 46012.
