Emma Jean Gallagher

October 13, 1941 — April 18, 2024

Emma Jean Gallagher, 82, of Pendleton, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Elwood Health and Living in Elwood, Indiana following a long battle with dementia. Jean was born October 13, 1941, in Maysville, Kentucky to Perry and Rosalee (Miller) Kidder. Jean graduated from Maysville High School in Maysville, Kentucky. In 1966, Jean moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and later moved to Pendleton, Indiana in 1967 where she was a homemaker and raised her children. Jean was later employed at South Elementary School in the cafeteria and worked at Mace’s Grocery until it closed. Jean then worked at Lobill’s Grocery where she retired in 2004.

Jean loved spending time making many treasured memories with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Jean loved reading magazines, coloring elaborate pictures and was a master at crossword puzzles. Jean also enjoyed shopping and was an avid Boyd’s Bear collector.


Jean was preceded in death by her parents Perry and Rosalee Kidder, special father figure Ezra “Captain” Scott, sister Shirley Purcell, brother-in-law Jay Purcell, nephew Charles E. Hickle, great granddaughter Corianne M. Farmer and her beloved dog Ozzie.


Jean is survived by her sister Libby (Jim) Golob of Greenfield, Indiana, her 6 children Sharon Gallagher Farmer, Lisa Gallagher Taylor, Kellie (Danny) Gardner, CR Gallagher, Chuck (Elizabeth) Gallagher, Jennie (Dallas) Kendall, 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Jean is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.


Graveside services will be held at a later date at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson, Indiana for immediate family.
