Dwight D. Hess passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 82.
He was born on March 27, 1944, in Hartford City, Indiana, to Keith W. Hess and Ruby A. (Osborne) Hess. He grew up in Dunkirk, Indiana, where he developed a strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. He graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1963.
He dedicated 42 years of service to Delco Remy, where he built a long and respected career.
He is survived by his wife, Saundra; his daughters, Tonia (Tim) Deane, Lenora (Robert) Steele, and Angela R. Schmidt; and his stepchildren, Jim (Lisa) Everitt, Brad Everitt, and Lisa (Chuck) Woodruff.
He was a proud grandfather to Chris Deane, Jessica Davis, April Jones, Nicole Green, Nathan Everitt, Jennifer Everitt, Eric Everitt, Lexy Myers, and Megan Newton, and a loving great-grandfather to 19 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Ronald K. Hess, Anson K. Hess, Cheryl C. Perry, and Bruce A. Hess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith W. Hess and Ruby A. Hess; his first wife, Joyce A. (Speidel) Hess; his sister, Dawn D. Hess; his stepdaughter, Sherri L. Everitt; and his son-in-law, Brian E. Schmidt.
He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, camping and traveling in his camper, working with his hands, and helping others. He had a deep love for trains and old tractors, often spending time rebuilding and restoring them. He took great pride in restoring his family's Oliver tractor, which he retrieved from a field and proudly showcased at the Tri-State Antique Engine and Tractor Show, an event he loved to attend.
He also had a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife, especially enjoying watching birds and squirrels.
Visitation will be Friday, April 17, 2026 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory- Brown-Butz-Diedring Chapel, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013. The funeral ceremony will begin at 11:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow after at Gardens of Memory, 10703 IN-3, Muncie, IN 47303.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Alzheimer's Association.
