Donald Walter Shupe

Donald Shupe, 92, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at his home in Anderson, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 18, 1933, in Newman Grove, Nebraska to Walter Lafayette and Dorothy Irene (Dickinson) Shupe. He attended school in Sheridan. At the age of 17, Don started working on the pipeline. He went on to several jobs operating heavy equipment, including working with Feschel Company, Rieth Riley, E&B Paving, Milestone and Gradix.

Don was an active member of Ford Street United Methodist Church in Lapel. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Don's hobbies and work were one and the same. To say it was a passion would be an understatement. He was happiest when he was digging in the dirt. He used his favorite hobby opening graves for many cemteries over a 50-year span. He passed that passionate hobby on to his son, Donnie and his grandson, Jon.

Don is survived by his wife whom he married June 1, 2019, Loraine (Smith) Shupe; three children, Linda Shupe (husband, Blake) Bowman of Little Rock, Arkansas, Donnie (Wife, Rosie) Shupe of Noblesville and Marcia Shupe of Anderson; five grandchildren, Jonathon Shupe, Annaelise Bowman, Austin Jarrett, Shaneerose Bowman and McKalyn Weeks; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Janice McVey and Pat Shelburne.

He was preceded in death by his first wife 55 years, Roseanna Sue (Purciful) Shupe; his parents; and a brother, Vernon Edward Shupe.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lapel Chapel 1010 North Main Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Lapel.

Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ford Street United Methodist Church to be used for the church, the missions fund and the Gathering Grounds Coffee Shop, 925 North Ford Street, Lapel, Indiana 46051.
