David Elza Schlatter

David Elza Schlatter passed away on January 7, 2026, at Rawlins House in Pendleton, after an extended illness. He was 74. Born July 31, 1951, to Elza Herschel and Dorothy Marie (Weaver) Schlatter. David was a cherished son, brother, father, and friend.

After graduating from Wabash High School in 1970, David worked in the commercial printing business for over 20 years. He later worked as a school bus driver for Hamilton Southeastern Schools until retirement. An active member of the local theatre and film community, David was a skilled special effects artist who found true joy in the magic of theatre and movies. With a mind and spirit that never rested, he was also a ventriloquist, stand-up comedian, dance instructor, pilot, limo driver, professional photographer and more. A born storyteller, David loved nothing more than a long conversation with a good friend. He will be missed by many.

David is survived by his daughter Carrie (Josh Ramsey) Schlatter of Indianapolis, brother James (Penny) Schlatter of Rossville, sister Denise Carpenter of Wabash, nephews Jim (Dee) Schlatter, Kim (Sarah) Carpenter, Eric (Sawyer) Foltz, nieces Angie (Scott) Storz, Christie (Jamie) Holmes, six great-nephews, five great-nieces, five great-great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Box Media Space 1413 E. Riverside Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46202. It will be an Open House setting from 12 to 3pm and is open to the public.
