Connie Jean (Buck) Markwell Ahlers was born on October 25, 1945 to William and Dorothy (Green) Buck in Muncie, Indiana. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 20, 2026.
Connie graduated from Anderson High School with the Class of 1963. She worked as the Controller for Hopewell Center from November 1977 to January 1986; she served as Chief Financial Officer for several Indiana Workforce Development areas from 1986 through her retirement in December 2016.
Connie is a member of Central Christian Church and Anderson Arts League.
She is survived by: Amy Jo Layton, daughter; Aaron J. (Juli) Markwell, son; Grandchildren: Corbin O. Smith, Shad (Dani) Markwell, Tory Markwell, Zane Layton and Cydnie Layton; Great Grandson: Tyler Aaron Markwell and Great Granddaughter, Amelia Markwell; Brothers: Jim (Mary) Buck; Robert (Rita) Buck, Donnie (Barb) Buck. Nieces and Nephews: Janet Erlandson, Jamie Johnson; Brian Buck, Justin Buck and Carey Buck; Several great nieces and nephews; Sister in law: Carol Markwell. Cherished Lifelong Friends, Laura Ellis Phelps, Jeane Atkinson, Cassandra Riggs, Doug Hiday, Karen Whitacre, Pam Foley and many more too numerous to name.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents. Her first husband, David O Markwell on March 4, 1992; her second husband Thomas W Ahlers on July 13, 2005; brother, Steve Buck; son in law, Darryl Layton; sisters in law, Joyce Buck and Rebecca Davis and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service will be held at Bozell Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brown-Butz- Diedring Chapel on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 2:30 PM. Viewing will be 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.bozellfuneralhomes.com.
