PENDLETON- Clyde A. Wiles, 87, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026.
He was born on January 19, 1938, in Deadwood, South Dakota to the late Kenneth and Dorothea (Athey) Wiles and grew up as a farm boy in the Weeping Water, Nebraska community.
Clyde was a US Air Force veteran serving in Japan where he firmly established his relationship with Jesus. Upon returning to the United States with their first child in tow, he continued his education adding three more children along the way.
Clyde received his bachelors, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Nebraska, University of South Dakota at Deadwood and University of Wisconsin at Madison. He retired from Indiana University Northwest as a College Professor following 30 years of service. He previously taught at the University of Nebraska and the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, writing their math curricula. He was past president and director of State Mathematics contests for over 12 years.
Throughout his life, Clyde was faithful to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a true spiritual patriarch, he and Barbara were always active in a church community serving in every imaginable ministry raising their children to know and love Jesus too. Their collective impact on the Kingdom of Heaven is simply incalculable. Beyond Jesus and his family, his great loves were teaching, fishing and singing. He was singing about heaven and seeing Jesus' face just a few days before his unexpected journey to heaven. Most recently, he was an active member of Fall Creek Christian Church and its choir which he loved dearly.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann "Barb" Wiles; children, Steve Allan (Jan) Wiles of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Debra (Randall) Cole of St. Louis Missouri, Rebecca (Doug) Brown of Fallbrook, California and Tom (Mandy) Wiles of Pendleton, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren with "two more in the hangar, that we know of" as Clyde would say; brothers, Gary (Carolyn) Wiles of Phoenix, Arizona and Roger (Kathy) Wiles of Enid, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Pauline.
