Charla Ann Harris, 80, of Pendleton passed away peacefully at her home on Monday October 28, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1 -2 p.m., on Sunday November 17, 2024 at North Christian Church, 32 State Street, Markleville, IN, 46056. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor John Hackney officiating.
Charla was born May 1, 1944 in Anderson, Indiana to Stacy and Nannie (Carlson) Wright. She grew up in Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1962. In June of 1965, she began working at General Telephone Company of Indiana where she was a familiar and comforting voice for the community for 29 years. She was married to her first husband Lawrence Hatt in 1968 and gained 6 children. Charla married James “Sonny” Harris in 1986 and gained 3 children. She worked for the Rawlins house from 1999-2006 where her kindness and love for others shown brightly. She and Sonny were frequently up at the AMVETS in Pendleton where they enjoyed good food, great music, and amazing friends.
Charla was a wonderful person who was known for her kindness and acceptance. She was a devoted friend, loving neighbor, and doted on her family every chance she got. She praised her Heavenly Father daily and loved her church and church family at North Christian Church. She was incredibly talented at crocheting, sewing, cross-stitch, quilting, and diamond-art paintings. She rescued many precious dogs and cats and loved and cared for many more as a trusted dog-sitter. Charla loved to read and was a gifted poet. Every Christmas you would find her baking dozens of batches of delicious cookies to share with friends and family. She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds around her house, especially the orioles and hummingbirds. You could often find her happily zooming around on her zero-turn riding lawn mower out in the yard. Her joyful laugh would bring a smile to your face. She will be dearly missed.
Charla is survived by her children, Kevin (Julie) Harris, Lee (Paul) Martin, Cindy (Gary) Lawson, Christy Hatt, Larry (Vicki) Hatt, James (Darlene) Hatt, David (Debbie) Hatt, Rody (Eva) Hatt, Lorrie (John) Burge; brother, Rex Alan Wright; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, Katie (Ben) Mancil and Annie Wright; a great-nephew Elijah and great-niece Freya Mancil: 7 special friends, Sheila Hunter, Miriam Hofer, Dorothy Moneyhun, Gordon Brooks, Nicole and Stacy Watts, and Sharon Wolfenberger. She is preceded in death by her parents, her first and second husbands; son, David E. Ellis; sister in law, Laynie Wright.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to North Christian Church.
