Betty Jo Hughes, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022, to be with her Lord and Savior. Betty was born on May 3, 1941, in Grider, Kentucky to the late Joe and Robbie (Norris) Flowers.
Betty was a graduate from Highland High School in 1959. She worked at Hoosier Park helping with guest services. Betty was an avid member in her church for 58 years at St. John’s Lutheran. At her church, she was part of the choir, craft club, the food pantry, putting special events together, and going on mission trips. Betty also loved to listen to blue grass music and going to festivals. In her spare time, she would love to sew, quilt, garden, and go to garage sales.
Betty is described by her children as a hardworking, positive, independent woman. As a single mom she taught her children the values and morals of life. She would do anything for her children and loved them unconditionally. Betty is also a fighter who has overcome multiple obstacles in her life from colon cancer, skin cancer, dialysis, etc. Betty didn’t know a stranger and would help anybody who was in need. Betty overall just loved nothing more than her family and her Lord and Savior.
Betty is survived by her son, Rodney Hughes; daughters, Sherry (Jack) Kimmerling. Jill (Marc) Fella, April (Jimmy) Williams; grandchildren, Joe (Ashley), Jake, Amanda (Anna), Chad, Courtney, Will, Alyssa (Brandon); brothers, Keith (Lynn) Flowers, Jerry Flowers, Roy (Leah) Flowers; sisters, Wanda Dray, Hazel Flowers, Edie (Steve) Storm, and Judy Erwin; 1 great grandchild, 27 nieces and nephews; grand pets, Gatsby, Holly, Sampson, Sophie, and Elsie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debra Kay Hughes; brother, Bobby Flowers; brother-in-law, Dan Erwin.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., Sunday, October 2nd at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 310 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN 46013. Services will be at 4 p.m. October 2nd, 2022, following visitation at the church. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to St. John’s Lutheran Church for the food pantry or dialysis.
